What does the Test2Go Blood Profile Plus Test screen for?
The Test2Go Premium Blood Profile test requires a fingerprint blood sample to be taken in the comfort of your home and then returned to our accredited labs for testing. We will have the results back to you in as little as five working days. The Premium Blood Profile tests for: HIV-1 HIV-1 is a virus that infects a specific kind of immune cell (CD4) which is very important in helping coordinate our body’s immune response. If HIV-1 isn’t treated, it will get harder and harder for our immune system to deal with infections and certain types of cancer. As HIV-1 is a viral infection, it is passed on when bodily fluids (such as blood, semen and vaginal fluids) that contain the virus come into contact with blood or mucous membranes found in the anus, genitals and mouth. HIV-1 was the first human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) discovered and is the most widespread type worldwide. HIV-2 HIV-2 is similar to HIV-1 but is more than 55% genetically different. HIV-1 and HIV-2 are transmitted similarly, and they can both lead to acquired immune deficiency (AIDS). However, HIV-2 is less likely to progress into AIDS due to its lower transmissibility. HIV-2 is most common in western Africa, although it is also becoming more common in India. A few cases have also been diagnosed in France, Portugal and other European countries – mainly in individuals of West African origin or their partners. HIV-1 and HIV-2 antigens are genetically different enough that if a blood test is developed only to detect HIV-1, it will not detect HIV-2. However, the Test2Go Premium Blood Test can detect both HIV-1 and HIV-2. p24 Antigen p24 is an HIV antigen. When a person is first infected with HIV, their body has a high level of p24 as it hasn’t had a chance to create antibodies to fight the HIV. A p24 antigen is usually not used by itself to test for HIV infection, but in this blood profile plus test, it is helpful as it sits alongside the HIV-1 and HIV-2 tests. Syphilis Syphilis is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and it can cause serious health issues if missed and left untreated. Syphilis can also increase your risk of catching HIV and cause pregnancy problems. It may also cause cardiovascular and neurological problems. Hepatitis B Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection spread through blood, semen and vaginal fluids. Acute Hepatitis B usually lasts less than six months. Chronic Hepatitis B can last longer and increase your risk of developing liver cancer, liver failure or cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver. Hepatitis C Hepatitis C also affects the liver, causing it to become inflamed. If left untreated, it can cause life-threatening damage to the liver, such as cirrhosis, liver cancer or liver failure. It is important to note that STI blood tests aren’t always able to detect a disease right after it is contracted, as it can take some time for viral levels to rise to a detectable amount. Therefore an incubation period of 90 days is advised, i.e. wait for at least three months after your last sexual partner to get the most accurate results. The blood profile plus test should be performed after the incubation period of 90 days. If a negative test result is achieved before the incubation period, you should perform another test after 90 days. NB. It is important to note that our tests are not a substitute for seeing a doctor, particularly if you have symptoms. You should not make a diagnosis or start any treatment without a consultation with a doctor or a suitably trained health professional,
